Football (or soccer) in England is more than just a sport; in the northeast, particularly in Sunderland, it's akin to a religion. So, when it came time to honor Chris, hosting a charity match was an obvious choice and became the catalyst for everything that followed.
This event was a collaboration between Dave and Tommy Hotchkiss, Chris's childhood friend, culminating in a sponsored football match featuring old-timers versus the younger generation. This was followed by a raffle at the local pub, an event that has become an annual tradition.
Even after Dave's passing, Tommy remains a passionate advocate for this tournament, significantly raising funds for GBM while honoring the memory of his childhood friend.
His unwavering dedication, along with the participation of all the players, is a testament to the strength of the community. While any excuse for a match is welcome, Tommy never allows the lads to forget the true purpose behind it all.
